"We share in the excitement of a baby rolling over or finally sleeping through the night. It is amazing how much I look forward to hearing about each baby’s accomplishment! One becomes so close with the moms, sharing in their pride and joy over baby."

Another Tuesday morning and I am running around the house trying to get my 4-month old son bathed, dressed, fed & happy, let alone trying to get myself presentable enough to go out in public! Why do I put myself through this every Tuesday morning? Because it is the one day I get to hang out with other new moms, who are experiencing the same thing I am going through. The Sutter Roseville Mothers Support Group, a place where it does not matter if my baby is screaming, fussy or poops all over his clothes, heck I can even nurse him sitting on the floor. It is that casual! No one is staring at me to quiet my baby or leave the room. It is my outlet away from my days filled with only baby talk and household chores, plus it is a great way to meet other new moms too.
By the time I get myself and baby out the door and strapped in the car-seat, I finally arrive at the group, usually at least 20 minutes late. But, no problem, mothers are welcome to come trickling in during our support group’s 2 hour time slot. I find a free spot on the floor to spread my blanket and toys out for baby to play, while I listen to the circle of moms talk about their week. Moms are free to share their struggles and triumphs they are experiencing with motherhood. Being a first time mom, what a blessing it is to be able to learn tips, ask questions or just vent to other moms!
We share our thoughts on getting baby to sleep for naps and through the night. We share the frustration of our baby not taking a bottle. We share laughs at the funny things our husbands do while making their best attempts to care for baby. And, we console the moms who have to return to work and leave their baby for the first time. We share in the excitement of a baby rolling over or finally sleeping through the night. It is amazing how much I look forward to hearing about each baby’s accomplishment! One becomes so close with the moms, sharing in their pride and joy over baby.
After our session of sharing it does not stop there, as many of us moms head out to lunch with our babies. What a sight to see at a restaurant! A table full of strollers, diaper bags, babies fussing and crying, mothers nursing under their hooter-hiders! It is fun to just chat and laugh and not have to apologize for our screaming baby!
The Sutter Roseville Mothers Support group meets every Tuesday morning at 9:30 at 3100 Douglas Blvd. in Roseville. No need to RSVP, just show up with baby! If you need a shoulder or 5 shoulders to lean on, you are welcome to join us new moms! Trust me, you will wish you joined sooner!
