Icing on the Cupcake
It's all the hype right now, you see them at all types of events from weddings and birthday parties, and they even work as a great gift. Cupcakes... pretty, decorative, delicious and just the right amount to satisfy a sweet tooth, it's why people love this fabulous little dessert! One local business in Rocklin has tapped into this phenomenon. Specializing in baking and decorating cupcakes, Icing on the Cupcake calls themselves a boutique cupcakery that bakes around 35 different flavors.
Holding on to the nostalgia of baking is what shop owner Christee Owens says is their basic principle. "We wanted to go back to the basics, baking from scratch, something people don't do a lot of anymore," says Owens, who opened Icing on the Cupcake a couple years ago. Owens, who was working in the party business teamed up with her mom, Shirley Nagasawa and long-time friend Chuck Meridith, to open what now is a successful cupcake shop. "Our cupcakes are simple, old fashioned, but with a little retro modern twist," says Owens.
Using recipes from her mother, Owens says they bake around 35 different flavors. They offer daily flavors, which feature the two most popular kinds says Owens, Pink Delicious, a moist chocolate cupcake topped with pink vanilla butter cream frosting, and of course the Red Velvet Cupcake (no description needed-your taste buds are already begging). Every day they also feature a list of unique flavors you'll want to try. There is a cupcake for every mood whether you’re craving Carmel Apple, Boston Cream, Pistachio or a PB&J cupcake, you're sure to find a favorite that will make your taste buds dance! Going through an amazing 1500 to 2000 cupcakes a day it isn't any wonder why this place is so popular!

Icing on the Cupcake is open Monday through Saturday from 10 to 6 and is located at 5065 Pacific Street in Rocklin--also in the works is a second location coming soon.
